Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow yesterday, which means that we’re offically in the home stretch of the winter, and less than six weeks away setting the hook on some big bass. Man, I can’t wait!
A few Buckeye Anglers spent some time on the water this weekend chasing bass - albeit not on OHIO waters.
Steve Priest and Charlie Hartley competed in the Bassmaster Open tournament on Lake Toho in Kissimmee, Florida. Prior to the event, the pundits were predicting lots of 20 pound limits and double digit bass being brought to the scale. But like the rest of the country, a wicked cold front rolled through the area and sent the big females hiding in heavy cover. Priest and Hartley did a great job respesenting Ohio, placing 18th and 65th respectively. You can view results from the tournament at Bassmaster Southern Open.
And former Ohioan Adam Vance found a way to beat the tough conditions Saturday on J. Percy Priest Reservoir in Nashville, TN to win a tournament with five fish that weighed 16.60 pounds. Nothing like fishing with an inch of snow on your front deck!
I also received some great photos from a couple of Ohio Bass Blog subscribers to help get you pumped up for spring.
First up is John Walters. who caught this toad largemouth from the AEP ReCreation Lands last summer.
Walters also shared a photo of this nice Hoover Reservoir smallie.
And Joe Peyton took this pig last November 25th from the AEP ReCreation Lands. Way to go Joe!
Finally, Mark Sherby created a fantasy bass fishing league for Ohio Bass Blog followers on the Bassmaster website if anyone is interested. You get to pick 5 anglers for each tournament in the Bassmaster Elite series schedule. Based on your teams performance in each event, you score points. To sign up, visit http://www.bassmasterfantasy.com/GroupHome.aspx?groupId=5064. The group name is Ohio Big Bass and the password to join the league is OHIO BASS (all caps). Good luck!
